Enhancing language skills and success for engineering students<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

From October 20 to 24, 2025<\/strong>, the Programme de Formation d’Ing\u00e9nieurs d’Excellence au Vietnam (PFIEV)<\/strong> atDa Nang Polytechnic Institute (DUT – University of Danang, University of Science and Technology)<\/strong> welcomed Isabelle Salengros-Iguenane<\/strong>, a French as a Foreign Language (FLE)<\/strong> teacher at the\u00c9cole nationale des ponts et chauss\u00e9es (ENPC – Institut Polytechnique de Paris)<\/strong>, as part of a teaching and pedagogical expertise mission.<\/p>\n\n

This mobility is in line with the PFIEV’s objective of reinforcing French language skills<\/strong>, developing students’ autonomy and supporting local teaching teams, in conjunction with prospects for academic mobility to France<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

\n\n

Mission objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The mission had complementary objectives:<\/p>\n\n

With students<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

    \n
  • Identify difficulties encountered in learning French ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Reinforce motivation and commitment to learning;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Suggest strategies for greater autonomy ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Help students prepare for the Dipl\u00f4me d’\u00c9tudes en Langue Fran\u00e7aise (DELF) level B1<\/strong> exams, with particular emphasis on oral production, pronunciation and prosody.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    For teachers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

      \n
    • Present the didactic approaches to FLE used at the \u00c9cole nationale des ponts et chauss\u00e9es (adult training, task-based approach, learner-centeredness);<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Encourage the sharing of teaching practices;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Strengthen professional exchanges between French and Vietnamese teams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
      \n\n

      Course of the mission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

      The mission began with an institutional reception<\/strong> attended by university management, the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology (FAST<\/strong> ) and PFIEV managers. This meeting provided an opportunity to present the program, its infrastructure and its excellent results in terms of professional integration. <\/p>\n\n

      Several interactive seminars<\/strong> were then organized for preparatory and engineering students (up to 70 participants<\/strong>, with heterogeneous FLE levels). The sessions, conducted in French with mediation in Vietnamese, focused on : <\/p>\n\n

        \n
      • presentation of the \u00c9cole nationale des ponts et chauss\u00e9es ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • the challenges of multilingualism for future engineers ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • the main difficulties encountered in learning French and the levers for progress;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • pronunciation, prosody and phonetics, with an emphasis on body language.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

        A targeted DELF B1 preparation workshop<\/strong> also brought together a small group of particularly committed students, enabling more in-depth and individualized support.<\/p>\n\n

        Finally, a special session dedicated to teachers of French as a foreign language<\/strong> at the PFIEV in Da Nang dealt with teaching methods, the choice of teaching aids, managing large groups, and the constraints involved in combining teaching and research activities.<\/p>\n\n

        \n\n

        Lessons and contributions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

        This mission highlighted :<\/p>\n\n

          \n
        • a concrete contribution for students<\/strong>, giving them ways of gaining confidence in speaking and becoming more autonomous in learning French;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • support for local teaching teams<\/strong>, through the sharing of practices and in-depth didactic exchanges;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • a strengthening of the academic partnership<\/strong> between the Da Nang PFIEV and the \u00c9cole Nationale des Ponts et Chauss\u00e9es, opening up prospects for future cooperation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

          More broadly speaking, this mobility illustrates the added value of PFIEV’s short-term missions<\/strong>, in terms of training quality, student success in learning French and the sustainability of Franco-Vietnamese cooperation.<\/p>\n\n
